Posted by: NTN Admin | Date: November 02, 2009
With the increment of tourist arrival continuous in 5th consecutive month showing hopes in Nepalese tourism market. Meanwhile, Maoist launched strong agitation programme against government demanding people rights and formation of new government on their leadership.
According to the data published by NTB, the number of tourists visiting Nepal via air in October has increased by 10.8 percent. The latest statistics of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) show that 56,009 tourists arrived in Nepal in October compared to 50,567 during the same period last year.
According to the NTB, a growth in Indian and Chinese arrivals has been a major contributing factor in the overall increment in tourists’ number. The rise in the number of Indian and Chinese tourists shows that regional tourism can play a major role in increasing overall visitor arrivals. The NTB has strategically segmented India and China as prime markets, and accordingly has accorded higher priority to promotional activities in these markets.
In the month of October, a robust growth of 20.1 percent and 116.4 percent in visitor arrivals from India and China respectively. Other Asian countries (other than South Asia) have also recorded positive growth. In aggregate, the Asian segment has registered a positive growth of 41.2 percent. Due to the addition of new airlines, the growth from China and the Netherlands can be attributed.
In the SAARC region, arrivals from Pakistan and Sri Lanka have registered positive growth of 177.4 percent and 106.3 percent respectively. The only market to decline during this month was Bangladesh (-49.5 percent). In aggregate, the South Asian segment has registered a positive growth of 6.8 percent.
An overall positive growth of 9.9 percent has been observed from the European markets with arrivals from the U.K., France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands up by 4.3 percent, 6.6 percent, 5.8 percent, 2.3 percent and 13.6 percent respectively. However, arrivals from Switzerland, Spain and Belgium registered a negative growth of 3.1 percent, 9.5 percent and 15.5 percent respectively.
Tourist arrivals from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the U.S.A. have also registered a robust growth of 20.6 percent, 21.3 percent, 21.3 percent, and 14.3 percent respectively.
However, the security is major concern right now to promote tourist in Nepal. And the government must pay attention on this regard.
