Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek

This is the classic trek of the region, but the trail from the road head at Jiri to Lukla can be surprisingly quiet, just because  many people wishing to fly directly to Lukla and missing out on this fantastic part of the trail.

Initially the trek is strenuous as you are crossing the country against the grain of the mountains and rivers. You will pass through beautiful scenery of ancient rhododendron forests, fields of barley and apple orchards, as you climb ridges to descend into to green river valleys. You begin to get a real feel for the country and way of life as you share the route with local porters carrying all manner of goods up beyond the road head and pass other goods flowing down towards the markets in Kathmandu.
Above Lukla you pass through the Sherpa heartland of Solu Khumbu rich in culture and mountain tradition before reaching the high point of the trek on Kalapatthar (5600m) famous for its view of Everest.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu (1350m.) to Jiri (1905) about 188 km which takes about nine hours.

Day 02: Trek from Jiri (1905m.) to Deurali (2705m.) which takes about five and a half hours.

Day 03: Trek from Deurali (2705m.) to Sete (2400m.) it takes about six hours.

Day 04: Trek from Sete (2400m.) to Junbesi (2675m.) it takes about six hours.

Day 05: Rest day at Junbesi and hang around or visit Thubten Chholing Monastery known as Nunnery Monastery on a two hours side trip after three days strenuous walking.

Day 06: Trek from Junbesi (2675m.) to Nantahala (2200m.) which takes approximately six hours.

Day 07:  Trek from Nantahala (2200m.) to Bupsa (2350m.)  it takes about six hours.

Day 08: Trek from Bupsa (2350m.) to Surkey (2400m.) which takes about five and a half hours.

Day 09: Trek from Surkey (2400m.) to Phakding (2652m.) which takes about five hours.

Day 10: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 m.) which takes about five hours.

Day 11: Rest at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion around the places.

Day 12: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3850 m.) it takes almost five hours.

Day 13: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4350m.) which takes about five and a half hours.

Day 14: Rest at Dingboche for acclimatization and excursion in and around the places.

Day 15: Trek from Dingboche (4350m.) to Chhukung (4730m.) and it takes about three hours. 

Day 16: Trek from Chhukung to Lobuche (4900m.) via Dongla(4620m.) and it takes almost six hours.

Day 17: Trek from Lobuche (4900m.) to Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep (5180m.) and back to Gorakshep which takes about six hours.

Day 18: Trek from Gorakshep to Kalapatthar (5545m.) and back to Pheriche (4250m.) and it takes about six hours.

Day 19: Trek from Pheriche to Phortse (3750m.) it takes almost five hours.

Day 20: Trek from Phortse (3750m.) to Khumjung (3790m.) which takes almost five hours.

Day 21: Trek from Khumjung to Thame (3800m.) it takes about five hours. Thame is a place where you can visit many ancient monasteries.

Day 22: Trek from Thame to Monjo (2835m.) which takes about five and half hours.

Day 23: Trek from Monjo to Lukla (2800m.) it takes about four hours.

Day 24: You take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla which takes 35 minutes.
