Gokyo-Chola Pass Trek

The trek to Gokyo offers a good alternative to the traditional trek to Everest Base Camp. From Gokyo four 8000m peaks (Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu) are clearly visible. There are several options for additional side trips and high altitude walking, including the crossing of Chola, a 5420m high pass into Khumbu.

We pass through the Sherpa villages- Namche Bazaar and Khumjung to the Gokyo Valley and the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest in Nepal Himalaya. Descending to Phortse, make a high traverse to the village of Pangboche and climb on towards Everest Base Camp.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 01: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla 2700m and trek to Phakding 2600, 4 hrs and overnight.

Day 02: Phakding trek to Namche Bazaar 3440m, (6 hrs) and overnight.

Day 03: Namche Bazaar rest day and overnight.

Day 04: Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar

Day 05: Namche to Thame Village (3800m) 6hrs.

Day 06: Thame to Khumjung (3850m) 6 1/2hrs.
 
Day 07: Khumjung to Dhole (4040m) 7 hrs.

Day 08: Dhole to Machhermo (4410-) 4 ½ hrs.
 
Day 09: Machhermo to Gokyo (5350m) 4-5 hrs.
 
Day 10: Gokyo to Gokyo-ri (5350m) and back to Gokyo Lake (5 hrs.)

Day 11: Gokyo to Thangna (4700m) 3 hrs.

Day 12: Thangna to Jhungla (4845m) Via Chola Pass (5420m) 8 hrs.

Day 13: Jhungla to Lobuche (4940m) 7 hrs.

Day 14: Lobuche to Gorakshep (5230m) 2 1/2hrs.

Day 15: Gorakshep to Kalapatthar (5545m) and back to Gorakshep, 4hrs.

Day 16: Gorakshep to Everest Base Camp (5800m) and back to Lobuche, 8 hrs

Day 17: Lobuche to Chhukung (4730m), 6 hrs

Day 18: Chhukung – Tengboche, 7hrs..

Day 19: Tengboche - Monzo (2815m), 6hrs

Day 20: Monzo – Lukla, 5hrs.

Day 21: Lukla - Fly back to Kathmandu, 45 min
