Naya Kang (Ganja La Chuli) Peak Climbing

Naya Kang (5,844m), formerly known as Ganja La Chuli lies in the lap of the most perfect alpine landscape in the world, the Langtang region. Regarded as the second largest national park in Nepal, Langtang National Park has healthy forests of rhododendron, fir, blue and chir pine and birch. The wildlife in the park includes leopard, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, rhesus and langur monkeys and the endangered red panda. The Langtang valley is surrounded by high peaks with great appeal. When the British mountaineer Bill Tilman described it as the most beautiful valley in the world, since then it has gained its popularity among the nature lovers. Furthermore, the region is also popular for alpine plants. The valley is dominated by the Tibetan origin Tamang community.

Naya Kang (5,844 m) rises to the west of Ganja La is a popular but difficult mountain to climb. The normal route to this peak follows the snowy north-east ridge. The first climber of this peak is still unknown. The most important reward of climbing Naya Kang is the stunning view of Lantang Lirung (7246m), Lenpo Gang 7083m), Dorje Lakpa (6990m) and mighty Shishapangma (8027m) in Tibetan side. Easy access to the region and availability of several snow peaks scattered around for acclimatization make this region an ideal destination for mountaineers.

Total Duration: 17 Days

Climbing Itinerary:

Day 01: Kathmandu (1350m) - Dhunche (1950m) - Syabrubesi (1450m). Drive from Kathmandu to Dunche (1950m) and reach Syabrubesi (1450m).

Day 02: Syabrubesi - Lama Hotel (2480m)
Trek from Syabrubesi. While on the trail, we would find distinct settlement of the Tamang Community, one of the indigenous groups of Nepal. Majority of the people in the area are engaged in cattle rearing and farming. Few of them are engaged in tourism sector. By religion, about 98% of them are Buddhists. Experiencing rural way of life we finally reach Lama Hotel and spend the overnight in the hotel.

Day 03: Lama Hotel – Langtang (3541m)
Today, we proceed from Lama Hotel to Langtang. Our visit to the area gives Himalayan nature experience and an insight into the lifestyle and culture of Tamangs, the predominant inhabitants of the region.

Day 04: Langtang - Kyangjin Gompa (3800m)
We start our trekking after having breakfast at the teahouse. En route to our today’s destination, we would observe the local vernacular architecture of the region. In the late afternoon, we reach Kyangjin Gompa, overnight in a local lodge.

Day 05: Kyangjin Gompa
It is our turn to take rest to be acclimatized with the climate of the area. Having breakfast in the teahouse, we go around the glaciated valley situated on the lap of Langtang Lirung and surrounded by snow capped mountains. The region is also the worlds nearest settlement to glacier.

Day 06: Kyangjin Gompa - Naya Kanga Base Camp (4400m)
We start today’s trek from Kyangjin Gompa and go up to Naya Kanga Base Camp. We would be able to experience the alpine vegetation and climate and overnight in the camp.

Day 07: Naya Kanga Base Camp
Today also we take rest at Naya Kanga Base Camp, since we have come to a greater height. While on trekking to the area of higher altitude it is wise to acclimatize, if not, we would suffer from altitude sickness

Day 08: Naya Kanga Base Camp - High Camp (5000m)
We get up as early as possible and the breakfast would be served. Having food in the camp, we go to High Camp and overnight in the camp.

Day 09: Summit Naya Kanga (5844m.) -  Base Camp
Collecting our vigor, we proceed towards our destination. We proceed towards the summit as early as possible. Having done the job, we come back to the Base Camp

Day 10: Base Camp - Kyangjin Gompa - Langtang Village
From the Base Camp, we proceed towards Kyangjin Gompa and reach Langtang village. En route, we penetrate the forests of rhododendron at bloom during season. If we are lucky, we would also see some of the wild animals like deer, monkeys, etc.

Day 11: Langtang - Lama Hotel
From Langtang, we come to Lama Hotel. Along the trail, we would interact with the local people and get in-depth knowledge of their rich culture. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 12: Lama Hotel - Syabru village
It would our wilderness experience trekking through beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain and flat meadows. Finally, we reach Syabru village. Overnight in a local lodge

Day 13: Syabru village – Dhunche
It is the final day of our trek. Our trek in this section provides elaborated costumes of the local people, rich architecture of their mountain houses, and the ancient monasteries and places of pray add color to the experience. We reach Dhunche after walking a distance of normal six hours walk and overnight in a lodge.

Day 14: Dhunche - Kathmandu
