Ram Prasad Humagain: Culture Hiking Guide to Managing Director

Ram Prasad Humagain a tourism entrepreneur is a Managing Director of Balthali Village Resort. Mr. Humagain was born in Balthali, Kavre in 1961 July 19. He has completed bachelor level study from Tri- Chandra College and German language Diploma from Vishow Bhasa Campus. He shaped his career from kitchen hand to culture/hiking tour specialist. He had worked in several international tour agencies as tour specialist. At present, he is running his own resort in Balthali village, a beautiful hill station close to Kathmandu valley. He is actively participants in social work in the community. He had designed short hiking tour package around the Balthali.

Mr. Humagain had started his career as Kitchen staff while he was studying in a college. In those days he influenced with the flow of tourist at Freak Street (Jhochhe) and started to learn English in American Language Institute near by new road Pipalbot. From 80s, he started to work in tourism industry and from 1990 he started to work full time as a German guide in InTrek. For the first time he had designed 2 weeks cultural and hiking tour in Kathmandu valley. Probably he was the first guide to introduce this tour package among tourist. He works in Intrek for several years as culture hiking tour specialist. In those days he was entitled as ‘Best Guide in young generation’. He had worked with DAV Summit Club of Germany, a biggest tour agency of Europe. He was the Nepal representative of that company.

He excited and determined to open resort in Balthali when he had tour German group in Balthali village. The group suggested him to open resort in his own village. He thought about the potential of Balthali village and its surroundings in tourism hospitality. In 1994, finally he opened Balthali village resort. He earned through tour guiding in Kathmandu and invest his earning to run resort in Balthali. He shared with NTN that he is getting result of his continual effort in the resort. He thinks Kathmandu is loosing tourist day by day. He thinks the major causes are conversion of traditional city with its unique art and culture into concrete desert by destructing traditional building and constructing modern one. The pollution and heavy traffic is also distracting tourist in Kathmandu. When NTN raise question as why Balthali? Mr. Ram replied it in simple manner as Balthali composed of culture and tradition, hill station to view Himalayas, village life style, beautiful terrace and far from maddening crowd.
