A team of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) along with a number of organisations recently completed exploration trek to Paanchpokhari (five lakes) area in Sindhupalchowk district.

According to TAAN, the 13-member team which had left the valley on June 4 led by Mahendra Singh Thapa, second vice president of TAAN, has successfully explored and suggested a nine-day route to Paanchpokhari.

Paanchpokhari falls in the Langtang National Park which has been formed by melting glaciers. It also stands at ninth among the highest wetlands in the world and it is also considered a sacred place. Many pilgrims around the country visit this sacred place during Ianai Purnima festival which falls in July-August for 15 days.

The trek begins with a seven and half hour drive through Sankhu and Melamchi, and a light trek of two hours to Haveli, a beautiful village. The trek continues to head towards Tapkharka through dense forests and to Nosyampati, then finally to Panchpokhari.

Trekkers can enjoy the pristine views of Paanchpokhari Lake and snow capped mountain throughout the trek.

On the fifth day of the trek, it heads towards the highest point near the lake from where one can view the beautiful Yangri, Jugal, Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shankar and Langtang Himalayan ranges.

Then the trek proceeds back to Nosyampati, a walk of three and half hours to conclude at Tembathang which is a beautiful village inhabited by Sherpas and also the base camp of Jugal mountain.

On the seventh day, the trekkers arrive at Gumba Tamang village of the Tamang community with its beautiful culture. Then it proceeds toward Pangtang village which at 1730m altitude inhabited with Tamang and Newar community.

Finally the trek concludes after nine days through Chanaute towards Kathmandu.
